Starting in the 2026-2027 school year, WSCUHSD is partnering with The Commons — a privacy-first app that helps students stay focused by limiting distracting apps during the school day. At Analy, we are also requiring that students keep phones and other connected devices put away and out of site during the entire school day.
This isn’t just about reducing screen time—it’s about giving students back over 270 hours of learning and peer interaction each year (over 1-month of class time!). Recent studies, including those from JAMA Pediatrics and the Surgeon General, show that excessive phone use during school hours is linked to lower academic performance and increased anxiety and depression in teens. It is also a major contributor to teacher burnout!
