People in a parking lot walking into a Safeway grocery store

Letterhead for Sebastopol PD and WSCUHSD

January 29, 2026

Dear Analy High School Students and Families,

The Sebastopol Police Department and the West Sonoma County Union High School District share a commitment to student safety, positive community relationships, and respectful behavior in public spaces. We are writing together to address ongoing concerns related to student traffic and loitering in and around the Safeway shopping center before, during, and after the school day.

Analy High School is a closed campus. Students are expected to remain on campus during the school day unless they have received prior authorization to leave. The Safeway parking lot and surrounding businesses are private property and are not approved locations for student gathering, drop-off, or pick-up. When students congregate in these areas, it creates safety concerns, traffic congestion, and challenges for local businesses and community members.

We ask families to speak with their students about their responsibility to uphold respectful citizenship at all times, including while off campus and in public places. Student behavior beyond the school grounds reflects not only on the individual, but also on Analy High School and the broader community. Respect for local businesses, compliance with school expectations, and adherence to community norms are essential components of responsible citizenship.

To support student safety and reduce congestion, families are strongly encouraged not to use the Safeway parking lot as a drop-off or pick-up location. Please use designated school areas and follow posted traffic and safety guidelines when arriving at or departing from campus.

Our goal is to work collaboratively with students, families, and the community to maintain a safe, welcoming environment for everyone. We appreciate your partnership in reinforcing these expectations and helping students understand the importance of making responsible choices in shared public spaces.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Sean McDonagh, Chief of Police
Chuck Wade, Principal
Chris Meredith, Superintendent
