On October 11, 2023, our Board of Trustees approved a joint-use agreement and three-year lease with Sonoma County Regional Parks (SCRP). This agreement was to lease three classrooms, an office space, and a dedicated restroom at the Laguna campus to SCRP for $1250 monthly, increasing 3% annually. The space at Laguna will house their river maintenance team and Career Pathways Youth Crew Program.

The SCRP Youth Crew Program “provides paid work experience to young adults, ages 18 to 24, with limited work experience or who have been referred by other youth-serving organizations. Participants develop various skills while completing parklands management and operations projects during their six-month program.”

The Sonoma County Regional Parks approached the district at the end of the last school year about utilizing unused space on the Laguna campus. Since then, our district administration worked with SCRP to identify an appropriate area to accommodate both our needs. The SCRP will lease classrooms I3, I4, I5, and an office space.

During the Board meeting, we heard from Principal Greg Alexander, who fiercely advocated for this lease agreement. He looks forward to working with the SCRP to find ways to engage Laguna students with their work. “It felt good in terms of the possibilities for Laguna students to have exposure to a program that could put them on a pathway to a full-time career… having extra revenue and additional people on campus doing positive things is always nice,” said Director of Facilities, Bond, and Technology Jennie Bruneman, who worked closely on this project.
