PE 9 provides the foundation for high school physical education instruction. Students develop proficient movement skills in each area of physical education; they expand their capabilities for independent learning; and they examine practices that allow for sound decision making to enhance successful participation in movement activities. the state mandated Fitness gram Test is part of the freshmen curriculum. Freshmen students will also participate in a health curriculum designed to help students make positive living choices. HIV/AIDS, human sexuality and substance abuse are among the health issues explored in CORE.

Advanced PE will provide a continuation of the foundation for high school instruction (PE 9) with the emphasis more on team and individual sports and strategy. Students develop advanced proficient movement skills geared towards independent learning and lifetime fitness goals.

This course is designed to give students the opportunity to learn fitness concepts and conditioning techniques used for obtaining optimal physical fitness. Students will benefit from comprehensive weight training, and use of a variety of fitness equipment, as well as cardiorespiratory endurance activities. Students will learn the basic fundamentals of strength training, aerobic training, and overall fitness training and conditioning. Course includes both lecture and activity sessions. Students will be empowered to make wise choices, meet challenges, and develop positive behaviors in fitness, wellness, and movement activity for a lifetime. This course is suggested for the student who is highly self motivated and wants a 4 day a week workout program during 0 period.

#DD4700-ADVANCED CONDITIONING- Grades 10-12

Advanced Conditioning will provide students an opportunity to improve upon their strength, flexibility, and muscular endurance. This course will include cardiovascular fitness and agility training. Advanced Conditioning is focused on high levels of physical fitness and performance. Curriculum design will be geared towards Varsity level athletes.

Alternative Fitness is a course that will emphasize Total Wellness, which will include analyzing individual needs in the areas of strength, endurance, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, agility, and body awareness. Activities included: yoga, muscle fitness, Strength Training, and core strengthening.

Weight Training 1 will introduce students to proper training techniques and proper spotting methods for free weights and dumbbells. The course will be offered so the student can develop an appreciation of the components of physical fitness, muscle strength, endurance and flexibility. Students will have the opportunity to create their own program for their individual needs during the course of the year.

Intro to dance offers interested students in grades 9-12 multiple dance experiences in the areas of artistic perception, creative expression, historical and cultural context, and aesthetic valuing. This comprehensive program explores various forms of dance while introducing dance techniques of jazz, ballet, modern, and hip-hop. Performance in a February/March Dance production is an essential part of the curriculum. Students in grades 10-12 may receive P.E. credit if desired. No Audition required. This is an intro to the Arts, Media, and Entertainment CTE Pathway for dance.

This Beginning dance Class offers students in grades 9-12 multiple dance experiences in the areas of artistic perception, creative expression, historical and cultural context, and aesthetic valuing. This class will have a heavy focus on technique to prepare students for Performance, Dance 2, and Dance 3 readiness. Students will perform in Fall & Spring. Students in grades 10-12 may receive P.E. credit if desired. Auditions are required. This class is the first of the Arts, Media, and Entertainment CTE Pathway for dance.

  • Prerequisites: Creation of Solo, Live Audition and Instructor's Approval.

An audition is required. Intermediate Dance offers qualified students in grades 10-12 (9th grade with audition and instructor’s approval) multiple dance experiences at an intermediate level. Intermediate dance students will move beyond the beginning levels of dance education and focus more intensively on furthering their dance training and developing personal strengths and abilities. Technical training in jazz, modern, Hiphop and ballet will continue to be a year-long focus, along with developing performance skills through informal and formal performance. Two formal dance performances yearly, one in the fall and one in the spring, as well as a dance-related semester project, are essential elements of the curriculum. Students in grades 10-12 may receive P.E. credit if desired. This class is the second of third series program, to complete CTE Pathway in dance.

  • Prerequisites: Creation of Solo, Live Audition and Instructor's Approval.

An audition is required. Advanced Dance offers serious students in grades 10-12, at an advanced level, multiple dance, choreography, and performance production experiences. Students will apply advanced choreographic principles, processes and skills, as well as advanced technical skills in various dance genres, to create and communicate meaning through the performance of dance. This is a balanced program that focuses on dance performance and production and enhances student learning by teaching self-discipline and decision making; promoting individual creativity and problem solving, providing opportunities for success and building self-esteem. Three formal performances yearly, one in the fall, March and one in April/May are essential elements of the curriculum. A dance career-related research project and a theme-oriented original solo are also required, one (1) per semester. Students in grades 10-12 may receive P.E. credit if desired. This class is the capstone level for the CTE Pathway in dance.
