Dear WSCUHSD community,
In honor of September being Attendance Awareness Month and the passing of District Resolution #2.AUGUST.2025-2026 at last month’s Board meeting, I wanted to share some information on the importance of student attendance and engagement.
Daily attendance is more than just showing up to school– it helps to:
Reduce stress
Connect with friends and teachers
Support learning
Access campus resources
While a sick day here and there may seem harmless, missing even 2-3 days of school per month can make a large impact on student learning and social development. This is particularly important in a student’s transitional and pivotal Freshman year.
If your student experiences chronic illness, please get in touch with your site administrator to begin creating a plan to support their academic success.
For tips on how to talk to teenagers about attendance, view this guide (en español). Here are some examples of how you could begin the conversation:
“Your education is a foundation for your future success. Attending school regularly helps you stay on track with your studies and develop important life skills like responsibility, time management, and perseverance.”
"Developing the habit of going to school every day is important. It sets a foundation for good habits in adulthood, helping you become a reliable and committed individual. Starting now will benefit you in the long run."
At WSCUHSD, we strive to create a welcoming and engaging environment where students feel valued and supported. We recognize that not all absences are within the control of your student or your family; we are committed to your student’s success and are here to help in overcoming any obstacles that prevent your student from attending school.
For attendance support at your campus, get in touch with Gina Macias or Dawn Drew.
